Weekly Update Thursday 21st November 2024
20 Nov 2024
Our Vision
We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.
New this week…
Parking
Please can we remind parents that the school car park is for staff parking only. Can we also ask parents not to walk children through the car park to school to access school, but instead use the path that leads to the pedestrian entrance.
Currently, whilst Main Road is closed, the school bus parks briefly on Church Street, in the area that is restricted for that purpose, to drop children off safely into school. Please do not park on the double yellow, or zig zag lines at any time and avoid this area on a morning where possible. Thank you for your help in keeping our children safe.
Containers for cooking
Mrs Brassington, our cookery teacher has requested if any parents have some spare containers with lids, which children can bring their soup home in, please drop them off with a class teacher.
Poppy Appeal
Thank you to everyone who helped to raise money for the Royal British Legion, we managed to raise an amazing £157.93, it was even more than we raised last year!
Children in Need Friday 15th November
Thank you for all your support for our Children in Need fundraising day, we raised a fantastic £122.50, what a super achievement!
Pyjama Appeal
Thank you so much to all familes who have donated pyjamas as part of our appeal. This collection has now closed. A huge thank you to the school council for advertising and promoting this appeal.
Cold weather Clothing
As we approach the colder weather, please can we remind all parents that we are outdoor in all weathers, including the very cold weather, so please ensure your child comes to school with plenty of layers, hats and gloves to ensure they can stay warm.
Can we also remind parents that when your child is in forest school, they need to bring with them appropriate clothing and footwear to be outside all afternoon. They will need long trousers, long sleeves, lots of layers and then waterproofs and wellies on top of this.
Cross Country Competition – Wednesday 20th November 2024
A huge well done to all those children who braved the cold weather and participated in the cross country this week. You all did amazingly well and persevered both through the weather conditions and a challenging distance to run. Everyone who attended challenged themselves and did their very best, you did Kirkby proud. Well done.

Feedback from Parent Survey
Thank you so much for the extremely positive feedback received on the parent voice
surveys:
100% of parents feel that their children are happy, safe and well behaved in our school.
100% of parents felt that their children do well at the school.
100% of parent felt that their child/children’s personal development was well supported and that appropriate pastoral support was provided where necessary.
100% of parents would recommend our school to others.
100% parents feeling that school deal effectively and swiftly with any issues that arise,
Other feedback was also very positive with the majority of parents feeling that we offer a wide range of subjects and clubs and that school has high expectations of their child/children.
Thank you for taking the time to feedback to school.
Parent forum
Thank you to those parents who attended our parent forum last week. We really appreciate parents taking the time to come and share their views on school. It was great to welcome a small group of parents to the forum to discuss Personal Development for our pupils in the federation.
We strive to create a personal development offer for every child which includes enrichment activities across the curriculum from Reception through to Year 6 and promotes different opportunities as individuals progress through the school. These include the fantastic Forest School sessions to theatre and religious visits as well as the infamous Bike Ability, Young Voices and Residentials in Key Stage 2. It was an opportunity to discuss the amazing range of activities available currently and also potentials for the future and to gather parent’s views on this so they could be included. This will now also be shared with the children for their feedback. Once this work has been completed school aims to produce a personal development map which each child will experience on their journey through school.
As with the introduction of any enrichments outside the classroom they can unfortunately only be facilitated by the support of parents and the fantastic fundraising efforts from Friends of the School. School would like to take this opportunity to thanks all parents for their continued support in making this happen.
Parent help - Postcards
As part of Geography and helping the children understand place and locational knowledge could I ask that if any parents or relatives are visiting places of interest or travelling to other destinations on day trips or on holidays that they pick up a postcard. They can either send to school by post or send the postcard with their child on return to school. We can then, together as a class, find, locate and investigate locations around the world. I am sure they will be eager to learn about who has been where and this will enthuse and encourage them to further their skills in using world maps, atlases and globes.
Theatre Trips
Thank you so much to parents who have supported us in donating so we can take the children to the theatre in the coming weeks. We have been further supported by two generous parents who have made considerable donations to make up the shortfall in funds. I am pleased to say that we are now going ahead with this trip.
Netball Super Cup
Thank you to those parents who signed up for the netball super cup visit in March next year. Payment for tickets and/or transport are now due and these have been loaded to parent pay.

Mother Christmas at Dales Museum Hawes
We’ve always had a Mother Christmas event and this year I wanted to offer something to families who have children with disabilities (having one myself)! The event is wheelchair accessible anyway, and we want to offer something Christmassy for children with any learning disabilities.
So on 1st December we are having Accessible Mother Christmas. I want to be able to offer a tailored experience to each family, whether it’s sound/lighting/costumes/timings etc - people can email me to discuss what’s best for them. Also so I can find out what kind of gift might be suitable and if a quiet space is required.
