Weekly Update Friday 6th November 2026

05 Nov 2026

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Forest School
The next forest school session will be for Years 2 & 3 on Friday 13th November

Children in Need - Run Pudsey!
This year, our School Council have organised for us to take part in Run Pudsey to raise money for Children in Need! Starting Monday 9th November, children are invited to join a fun daily run on the school field at lunchtime (12:30pm). They can run, walk, skip, jog or hop around the track - all they need is a pair of trainers in school! We're asking family and friends to sponsor children taking part and help us raise as much as possible for this fantastic cause. Our final run on Friday 13th November will be a special "Big Finish"! Children are encouraged to come to school dressed ready for a marathon, whether that's in their favourite sports kit or a fun fancy-dress outfit - I wonder if anyone will carry a fridge?!

Please use the QR code or visit the link below to sponsor our runners and support Children in Need - this will take you to our dedicated fundraising page. We are unable to accept cash donations. Thank you for helping us make a difference! 💛

Inter Football Tournament
On Tuesday 10th November a team of our Year 5/6 children will be competing in an inter-school football competition hosted at Outwood Academy in Ripon. The tournament will bring together enthusiastic young primary teams for an action-packed day of football development. The tournament is designed to highlight tactical progression, team positioning, and individual skill improvement as students prepare to represent their schools. With high expectations for strong team communication and positive sportsmanship and a chance to test both their individual and team skills against other local school teams. Good luck, Kirkby!

Crucial Crew
Our Year 6 students will be attending the vital Crucial Crew safety event at Carlton Lodge this coming Thursday, 12th November. This highly interactive, multi-agency workshop will give the children hands-on experience dealing with real-world scenarios, covering essential life skills from emergency services response to personal safety and digital awareness. It promises to be an engaging, practical day out that empowers our oldest pupils with the confidence and maturity they need as they prepare for their transition to secondary school.

🎄🎨 Calling all our little artists! 🎨🎄

We would love our school children to help us make our Christmas Fair extra special this year! 🎅✨

We’re asking the children to colour in some lovely Christmas pictures which will be used to help decorate our fair and make it feel festive and magical. ❤️

🖍️ How to get involved:
Sam Carson will be in the playground at pick-up time all next week (9th to 13th) handing out the Christmas colouring pictures.

Please encourage your little ones to get creative and add their own festive sparkle! 🌟

📅 Please return all completed pictures to Sam by 23rd November.

We can’t wait to see all their wonderful colourful creations and display them at our Christmas Fair! 🎄

Thank you for helping us make our fair extra special! ❤️

Acorn Class
In Acorn Class this week we have started to think about our new writing adventure, we have started by watching this short video based on Remembrance perhaps Acorn Class would like to share it with you at home https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies

Year One have been exploring using sketching and pencils to create texture in art this week.

In RE this week we have been thinking about Aboriginal Dreamtime Creation Stories in Year 1 and the Story of the Lost Sheep in EYFS.
As a whole class we have began to get our 'home area' ready for the celebration of Diwali and we have also been thinking about how Bonfire Night is celebrated, did you see our artwork in the class window? What a busy time of year it is!

Oak Class
It has been such a lovely week back at school. Oak Class have loved learning with all of their friends. We have particularly loved having thoughtful discussions in PSHE. We have thought about the trusted, special people in our lives. We discussed how these people can help us and when we can turn to them. We've also talked about our own actions and how these can affect people in our lives. We loved discussing the positive effect we can have on those around us, helping us to shine like stars. We've made a promise so that we can focus on making a positive difference in the lives of our special people. Can you tell your grown-up what your promise was?

Palm Class
This week in Palm we have been planning in extended time for our reading. As a class we love sharing a story but sometimes we forget to find the time in our busy days to read a book of our own. Therefore, every afternoon, we have found a cosy spot in the classroom to settle down and enjoy a book of our choice on our own. It has been great to have a moment of slower pace in our day. It has also been lovely for us to do this altogether (me included!). Hopefully this will have helped the children to reignite an excitement for slowing down and reading a book for an extended period. I wonder if you can plan in a time in your week at home to all stop together and each enjoy a book on your own?

Cedar Class
Cedar class have had a wonderful and relaxing half-term break, although we have had lots of adventures over the half term we have been excited to be back!
In Maths this week, Cedar Class has been learning how to multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number using the partitioning method. The children have been working hard to break down larger numbers into their tens and ones before multiplying each part and adding the totals together. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they master this important mental and written strategy!

Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached is a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home.

Reminders…

Arbor - School Meals
This is a gentle reminder to please ensure you select your child’s meal on Arbor.
This applies to all children, including those who receive Free School Meals (FSM) and Universal Free School Meals. Selecting your child’s meal helps the cook plan ahead and prepare the correct number of meals each day.

If no meal has been allocated to your child, we will presume that they will be bringing a packed lunch from home.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us ensure all children’s lunch arrangements are accounted for.

Bus Booking Form
Please continue to use Arbor by logging onto your account to book your child’s travel by 9.00am each Monday morning for the week ahead (if you use the school bus service). There is an option for each bus and booking can be made for the school year.
