Weekly Update Friday 23rd October 2026

19 Oct 2026

 Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Forest School
The next forest school session will be for Acorn Class on Friday 6th November

Arbor - School Meals
This is a gentle reminder to please ensure you select your child’s meal on Arbor.
This applies to all children, including those who receive Free School Meals (FSM) and Universal Free School Meals. Selecting your child’s meal helps the cook plan ahead and prepare the correct number of meals each day.

If no meal has been allocated to your child, we will presume that they will be bringing a packed lunch from home.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us ensure all children’s lunch arrangements are accounted for.

Staffing Changes:
We are writing to share some updates regarding changes to our staff roles. These adjustments are designed to ensure we continue providing the very best care and support for your children throughout the school day.
Mrs Bentley has decided to return to her roots in administration—a field she worked in prior to her time with us—and will now be based in the main school office, along with Mrs Dibb.
Mrs Clemmett is taking over the Pastoral role on a part-time basis. Mrs Clemmett has recently been undertaking a significant amount of training and qualifications regarding mental health, well-being and working with children with additional needs. Each morning, she will continue to work directly within Acorn classroom as she does now. From lunchtime onwards, she will focus fully on her pastoral work. She will also be running our Breakfast Club each morning as part of this role.
Mrs Michaelas will continue to support in Oak class each morning, but will now be working in Acorn class every afternoon.
Mrs Kron will be available to provide any support needed in Oak class in the afternoon.

School Council
School council have met this week to begin planning our fundraising for this year's children in need appeal. We have decided to run a RunPudsey event to raise money. This will run from 9th Nov up until Pudsey Day on Friday 13th Nov. Further information to follow after half term.

Friends Meeting

Got 1 hour to spare? We’d love to invite you to our next Friends meeting on Friday 6th November at 2:30 PM @ school.

Whether you're brand new to the school or have been here for years, new faces are super welcome!
We need your fresh ideas to help create fun experiences for our kids and support our school.

We can’t wait to see you there! 🌟

There is still time to reserve your number before the very first 100 Club draw at the end of the month.
A £10 one off payment covers 10 draws with a new chance to win each month.

Get in touch with Steph on 07792131961 if you would like to take part.

Let’s Celebrate!

Netball festival
A huge well done to our fantastic Year 5 and 6 children who recently represented the school at the local Ripon Netball Festival! The pupils demonstrated outstanding teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship on the court, matching their sharp passing skills with brilliant encouragement for one another. They represented Kirkby Malzeard incredibly well, making us all incredibly proud with their fantastic "can-do" attitude and endless enthusiasm throughout the tournament.

Well Done
Congratulations to Edward on his fabulous swimming achievement.

Spotlights from Learning…

Acorn Class
Wow, we can't believe that it is the end of our first half term already! This week we have explored a modern car (Mrs Pawson's Mini) and compared it to the first car driven by Bertha Benz, we all agreed that they are very different and we are glad that modern cars are more comfortable and safer.
We have been talking a lot about the different ways that we can be safe in and out of school, I wonder who can work on these over the holiday.
We have been busy in our artwork exploring using pencil to create texture within our line drawings.
Also the week we have planted lots of spring bulbs as part of our work in RE and we will be nurturing them and taking care of them over the coming months in the hope that they will grow and bloom. I wonder how you can take care of your environment at home this holiday. Have a great break I we look forward to hearing all of your news!

Oak Class
Oak Class have ended this half term with some fabulous writing! We have all become authors, and what a fantastic job we have done! Last week, we completed all five plot points for our own narratives inspired by 'The Comet'. This week, we have worked incredibly hard to edit and improve our stories, focusing on using capital letters and full stops correctly and upscaling our vocabulary by adding lots of exciting adjectives. We have been so impressed with each other’s writing as we have shared and read our stories aloud. To finish the week, we loved publishing our narratives and turning our stories into real-life books! We are so proud of everything we have achieved. Can you tell your grown-up about your character and the journey they went on?

Palm Class
Last week we began our art unit of learning. We are focusing on architecture this year with a drawing focus this term. We have completed an artist study of Stephen Wiltshire who many of us found very inspirational! We have now begun creating our own drawings of London landmarks in Stephen Wiltshire's style carefully noticing lines and shapes within our drawings. Perhaps you could look at some of Stephen Wiltshire's big cityscapes together over the holiday or create some of your own drawings after a day out?

Cedar Class
In Maths this week, Cedar Class has been deeply exploring the world of decimals and fractions. The children have been investigating the additive and multiplicative structures of a whole, learning how numbers can be broken down and rebuilt in different ways. They have also worked hard on calculating tenths, hundredths, and thousandths, which has greatly strengthened their understanding of place value. Finally, they applied these skills to real-world contexts by mastering how to round decimal numbers to the nearest whole number.

Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached is a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home.

There is an option for each bus and booking can be made for the school year.

Young Voices songs
The children have been enjoying singing some of the Young Voices songs in singing assemblies as well as voluntarily at lunchtimes with Miss Oates this half term. It's been great to see their enthusiasm for the songs and so many of them joining in with the dancing and learning the words. All children are welcome to learn the songs at home too - the playlist is available on Spotify/ Apple Music and even YouTube, simply search for Young Voices 2027.
For those children who are attending the performance we do ask that they spend time learning the song words at home. We can introduce the songs and work on the musical learning in school, but the real work of learning the words is something the children need to do at home. We recommend having the songs playing in the car, at home, just whenever possible and sing along!  Additionally, children will be given a copy of the lyrics to learn at home.
They are a really fun collection of songs and I hope you'll enjoy them. The whole Young Voices experience is SO much more enjoyable and worthwhile if the children are confident with the lyrics - and there will be no words allowed on the day.

Annual Update – School Behaviour and Communication Policies
As we settle in to the new academic year, we are writing to share our updated Behaviour Policy and Communication Policy. These updates are shared annually to ensure that our school community continues to be a safe, happy and productive environment for all pupils.
A successful school experience relies on a strong partnership between home and school and we ask that you review these policy updates.
