Weekly Update Friday 1st May 2026

30 Apr 2026

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached in a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.

This week’s take home…-Take Home 1st May.pdf-

Spotlights from Learning…

Acorn Class
This week we have started to look at our new writing stimulus- all about sharks and the oceans. We have also been looking at micro-habitats and investigating different micro-habitats in our classroom environment, we have found lots of examples, I wonder if you can find any micro-habitats at home or out and about? Perhaps you could draw a picture of any micro-habitats that you discover and who lives there to bring in and share in class.

Oak Class
This week in Oak class, we have continued our art portrait topic by applying our collage techniques of cutting, tearing and layering to create a Pablo Picasso style portrait. In addition to this, we used natural materials collected from the school field to make a more 3D self-portrait.

Palm Class
We have been finding our seed investigation fascinating and this week we have come to some great conclusions regarding how light affects seed germination and seed growth. Many of us were surprised! We now have a random selection of seeds in our independent learning that we can investigate - I wonder what everyone's questions will be and what they will find out? The children might be inspired to investigate some seeds and planting at home? We know all about the life cycle of a plant and what they need to survive.

Cedar Class
Cedar class have had a wonderful week learning all about the Tudor monarchs, especially Henry VIII and his wives. Why not ask your child 'how many wives did Henry VIII have, what were their names and what happened to them?'

New this week…

'I Want to Ride My Bike'
On Wednesday 6th May we will be welcoming Dave from 'I Want to Ride My Bike' into school to help any children who can't currently ride a bike to gain confidence and learn.
Parents in Acorn Class will be asked to complete a consent form so that their child can take part in this amazing opportunity which is part of our wider curriculum offer.
If your child is not in Acorn Class and is unable to ride a bike with or without stabilisers, please see or contact Mrs Pawson for a consent form.
Children can choose to bring their own helmet into school for the session however we do have plenty of helmets available in school that children can use. Any helmet must be named please. Children DO NOT need to bring their bikes into school.
If you have any questions please ask.

Phonics and Reading
We would like to invite you to a phonics and reading drop in...
Do you have a question about reading or would like to know more, come to our reading and phonics drop in on Thursday 7th May 2026 3.30-4.30pm Acorn Class/Library, everyone from any class/age is welcome to come along and find out more or ask any questions.

Mini London Marathon 26!
On Tuesday everyone in school took part in the London Mini Marathon, we walked, jogged, ran, cartwheeled and cheered each other on. Well done everyone and thank you for taking part, I hope that this inspires some of you to keep running or perhaps take it up!
Across the UK 600,000 children took part in this year’s 2-mile Mini Marathon. Children have a small certificate for taking part and as a school we have a wooden trophy to help us to remember the event.
Happy running and good luck to everyone who has a big run planned already!

 Music lessons in school
We welcomed Mark Sidwell and his pupils into our Singing at the start of term to share their musical adventures using brass instruments. What a treat! If your child would like to learn a Brass Instrument, please get in touch marksidwell72@hotmail.com
 -Brass Lessons.pdf-

Book Club
Each term we have been reading a book and then come together to share our thoughts and do an activity based on the book we have read.

Summer 1 - 14th May 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
We are reading 2 books this half term.
Books have been ordered and sent home with families who have paid for the book. Please help your child to read the book between now and book club so that we can share book chat and create things related to the book during the club.

Headlice/nits
We have several cases of headlice in school, please can you check your family’s hair and treat as necessary. Local pharmacists are a very helpful source of information and can advise on which treatment is currently the most effective in our area. Please follow the instructions on the treatment carefully and don’t forget to retreat your family, this is usually required a week after the first treatment.

Warm/Waterproof coats
It has been a little warmer and we have even seen the sun this week, however, we like to spend as much time outside as possible, children do need to have a warm waterproof coat with them every day to keep us warm, dry and happy outside.

Packed Lunches
Please can we remind parents of all children to continue to cut grapes and similar items such as cherry tomatoes to reduce the risk of choking for all children. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…

School Car Park - Please do not park in the school car park. This is for health and safety reasons as space is very limited. We appreciate your co-operation with keeping everyone safe.

Safety on site
A polite reminder to keep to the footpaths around the school site and avoid walking on the grass when arriving at and leaving the school site, several areas of grass near to the footpaths are now coned off as they are very slippery and dangerous.
A reminder that playing on the grass at the front of school and climbing on the walls is not safe for anyone and is therefore not allowed. Thank you for helping us too keep our children safe around school.
