Our Vision
We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.
New this week…
Spotlights from Learning…
Acorn Class
This week Acorn Class have been very busy practising their Nativity play are we are very excited to share it with you next week. We have been exploring the Christian Faith in RE thinking about Parables in Year 1 and Jellyfish in EYFS. I wonder if you can make a jellyfish at home, or retell the story of the Lost Son?
We have also been looking at and thinking about what the different parts of our address mean- can you think about which county you live in?
Oak Class
Oak Class showed great enthusiasm learning about homes in history this week. We used the National Trust book 'Step Inside Homes Through History' and generated lots of questions. Houses built a long time ago have changed through different time periods and we learnt what these looked like. Today we build houses that are fashionable to us. Can your child design a house that they would like to live in and suggest why?
Palm Class
Palm class have been learning about structures in DT this week. They explored how to strengthen structures with a fun and messy spaghetti and marshmallow building challenge! They then applied their learning when they designed and made their own model pavilion out of craft materials.
Cedar Class
We have loved learning all about multiplying fractions by whole numbers in Maths this week. Mastering our knowledge and understanding on fractions and how to use this to help us with complex multiplication problems involving fractions.

Learning to read books
This week and next while we continue our phonics and reading journey in school we will not be sending any 'learn to read' books home. This gives us chance to mend any broken books and to set up new groups for the new term. Please continue to read for pleasure to your child. Many thanks for your help with this, reading to your child is the single biggest thing that you can do to help your child both academically and for their wellbeing. Hopefully Father Christmas might bring us some new books to share in the New Year!
Christmas Card Post box
It is that time of year again! Our Christmas card post box is set up in the hall ready to receive cards. These will be collected and sorted by school council and delivered to classes. If your child would like to send cards to children in school using our post box, please help them to clearly write names and the class (Acorn, Oak, Palm, Cedar) on the envelopes. (This helps with confusion across school when there are multiple children with the same name and developing handwriting.)
Nativity
The children in Acorn and Oak classes are continuing to work on their Nativity; there will be performances at 2pm and 5pm on Tuesday 16th December.
Please see emails sent this week about costumes and tickets- if you have any questions please email the team using the subject 'Nativity' gpawson@kirkbymalzeard.n-yorks.sch.uk
Children will need to come to school in plain Navy PE joggers and plain white PE t-shirt for the Nativity so that we can put costumes on over the top.
Please can children return to school for the evening performance at 4.30pm- they need to be dropped off at their classroom doors, Manor Court Gate will be locked please use the entrance on Church Street.
Children will be collected from their classroom doors at the end of the performance, we can only let children go with adults on 'the list'.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…
Online safety support for neurodivergent children
Online scams like trust trades and fake giveaways can cause harm and upset to all children, but neurodivergent children are at greater risk of falling victim to scams.
Internet Matters have worked with Ambitious about Autism and Roblox to create new resources to help families with neurodivergent children learn and stay safe from scams within games.
There’s a guide for parents, a video for children and young people, plus stories for families to read and discuss together to explore the risks, with practical actions for children to take to help stay protected.
