Easter Tea
The Easter tea service is being held at school on Wednesday 2
nd April (not the 1
st April as originally recorded on the school website diary).
School Site Security
Our school site is locked and secured after drop-off at 08:55am every morning. This means access to school is only to be made via the front entrance. Please do not ask pre-school to allow you to enter via the side gate. If there is no one in the office, please alert somebody in the Acorn classroom (the classroom that looks out onto the front of school). Similarly, the school site is secured at 3:30pm after pick-up and the gates are locked. If your child is attending a club and you are required to access the playground, please wait until the member of staff leading the club opens the gate. Please do not ask pre-school to allow you to enter. Thank you for your help in keeping our school site secure and all our children safe.
Phonics
At our recent parent consultations several families asked for further information about 'tricky words' and how to best help children at home. to help with this Mrs Pawson is running a drop in for families on Wednesday 26th March between 5.00 and 5.30 in the school hall. Pop along for some top tips, advice and resources. All key stages welcome.
Head Lice
We have found headlice on some children in our school and we would ask for your cooperation to prevent the lice from spreading. It is important to be vigilant and we ask that you please check your childs head today for headlice. Many thanks for your support.
Palm Class Maths (and a bit of Acorn too!)
Palm class have been superstars this week with their maths. As well as the maths busy start on Tuesday, we have also had volunteers stay after school on Monday to take part in a maths lesson for our full federation staff and today, Palm class were visited by lots of teachers who wanted to see our fabulous maths learning to help them continue to develop their teaching. A huge well done has been earned! Some of Acorn class also got to show off their learning to our visiting teachers too. All our visitors were very impressed with our children's learning but also their behaviour and respect.
Maths Busy Start
Thank you so much to the families who were able to join us for our maths busy start this week. We thoroughly enjoyed showing you what 'maths' is at Kirkby Malzeard. Thank you also to those parents who reached out following the event to let us know how useful it was - your support is always appreciated.
Netball
On the Saturday 8
th March, our children had the opportunity to go to Sheffield arena to watch the Netball Super cup. It was an amazing chance to see live professional support and to cheer on favourite teams (or find a favourite team!).
School Council Elections
This half term the school have been busy with elections for new school council members. Our candidates put great thought and effort into their manifestos before each class took part in an anonymous election vote to choose their class member to represent them on the school council. We were incredibly impressed with the quality of the manifestos. We are now ready to share that joining our current school councillors of Oliver, Jack, Floss and Georgio, we would like to welcome Rowan, Rebecca, Oscar, Hattie and Poppy. They are currently busy getting up to speed with all our current commitments as well as thinking about their plan of action for the year ahead.
Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached is a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school. There is a new sheet each week.

Reminders…
Class PE days

Acorn – Friday (please come into school in PE kit as last term)
Oak – Friday
Palm - Friday
Cedar - Monday
Parent help - Postcards
As part of Geography and helping the children understand place and locational knowledge could I ask that if any parents or relatives are visiting places of interest or travelling to other destinations on day trips or on holidays that they pick up a postcard. They can either send to school by post or send the postcard with their child on return to school. We can then, together as a class, find, locate and investigate locations around the world. I am sure they will be eager to learn about who has been where and this will enthuse and encourage them to further their skills in using world maps, atlases and globes.
