New this week…

Friday 1st March 2024 - Busy end
Reception parents only are invited into class to see our learning in action.  Please join us from 2.45pm on Friday 1^st March, we will be playing, building, making and sharing stories.  Although we understand siblings might need to accompany parents, please be aware that our environment is not safe for very young children and the classroom is not particularly large.
 
Forest School Wednesday - Acorn Class
This half term Acorn will have their forest school sessions EVERY Wednesday. Children need to bring with them one waterproof coat, waterproof trousers, hat and gloves.  Please make sure these are named and your child knows what they have brought with them. 
Can all items be in a small bag separate to their lunch or reading bag.
 
Red Nose Day
We are changing how we are marking Comic Relief this year.  We would like to recognise this important charity event and are inviting children to wear one item of red to school that day (everything else is school uniform).  We are asking if you wish to donate to charity that you do so directly through the Comic Relief website, via this link

Polite Reminder - Allergens in school – Important Information
We have members of our school community who have severe allergens to the following products:

Cashew nuts, peanuts, lentils, chickpeas and peas (including pea protein, pea flour and pea fibre). 
 
Please support us to keep our school community safe by ensuring these products do not come into school and are not included in your child’s packed lunch or snack.  In addition, please can we request that all grapes, blueberries, cherries, sausages, popcorn need to be cut up, or avoided as they pose a significant choking risk to young children.

Residential visit to Bewerley Park
A gentle reminder for parents to settle their accounts on Parent Pay for Bewerley Park by the very latest Friday 15^th March 2024.  Please find all relevant information about the trip on the school website under School News & Events.  Copies of all forms are also available via the website.
 
NSPCC Online safety meeting
We have been fortunate to secure an NSPCC online safety workshop for parents.
This will take place on Tuesday 5^th March 2024 at 5.30pm.

Lost Property
We have a pair of glasses in school (black & pink frames) if you have lost a pair please come and see us.
 
Forest School Friday - Change of Date
To support our Golden Thread further, Helen will be running a morning forest school session for each class on a Friday morning based around Being Curious.
 
Dates are as follows:
Friday 1^st March - Palm class
Friday 8^th March - Cedar class
 
PE
Acorn class will need to come to school in PE kits ready for their lessons on Fridays this half term. Palm and Oak will need to bring their PE kits in on a Wednesday this half term.
 
SEND Parent Catch-up 
Our catch-up this term will be on Monday 4^th March 8:45-9:45am. I have some great resources for us to look at facing challenges and talking to your child at these times. But as always, the meeting is led by you! Let Miss Oates know if you can make it and if there is anything in particular you would like to discuss. The group is open to any parents or carers of SEND children but if this is not you and you think you would find the meeting useful, please get in touch. Biscuits included! 
 
Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…
 
Message from the Living Autism Foundation
Living Autism Foundation is a charity who help autistic people, their families and carers. One of our main objectives is to provide workshops which will offer information and approaches to help reduce anxieties and to improve health and wellbeing.
 
We have organised our next workshop at York CVS, 15 Priory Street, York, YO1 6ET, on Saturday 16^th March 2024 from 09.30am to 12.30pm. Our guest speaker, Geoff Evans is one of the country’s leading authorities on autism, with over 30 years’ experience. Geoff will provide an overview of Pathological Demand (Extreme) Avoidance, including how it is defined and its impact upon the autistic person and their families. He will discuss possible explanations including; high levels of stress and anxiety; Intolerance of Uncertainty (IoU); and low self esteem; as well as the behaviours/strategies the young person may use to avoid demands. He will also explore ways of supporting the individual and where further advice and support can be accessed.
 
The workshops are free to attend, however, should anyone attending feel they could support these or future workshops with a voluntary donation, this would be very much appreciated. A large part of our funding relies on donations.

Message from Ripon walled garden
Ripon Community Link charity provides opportunities for adults and young people with learning and physical difficulties to learn new skills and grow in confidence.
 
The Spring Fair will be a lovely day out for the whole family including: plant sales, artisan stalls, live music, children's activities and much more.  We would be delighted if some of your families would like to join us?
 
A second fundraising initiative that we would like assistance in promoting to as wide an audience as possible is the Great North Swim which our CEO and Chair of Trustees have agreed to participate in, swimming a mile in open water in Lake Windermere.
