West Tanfield Collaboration
Kirkby Malzeard and St. Nicholas West Tanfield
Collaborative Partnership
We launched our collaborative partnership in September 2013 and over the past five years it has grown and developed. Working together enables us to share not only resources and staff but also to nurture friendships and shared experiences. Our staff work together to plan work and take part in training sessions. Our children have taken part in a variety of activities including trips, visits, and sports.
This year, 2017/18, we have planned our curriculums more closely, developing rich and deep learning opportunities and engaged in joint learning sessions. KS2 children from Kirkby School presented an afternoon sharing their learning from their topics on World War 1 & 2 (including dancing from the era). They then visited St. Nicholas School to share in their learning in a ‘Victorian’ afternoon. Our younger children shared their Nativity plays.
This term (Spring 2018), the children in Y3/4 joined together for a short residential visit to Carlton Lodge – this was the first visit for our younger KS2 children and a great success. Y5/6 have had joint visits to Ingleborough in Clapham (for one week residential) in 2015 & 2017 with a further trip planned for 2019.
This term (Spring 2018), our KS2 classes have studied the environment and local area of the partner school and are planning presentations in the next term.
During the partnership, Oak and Tiger classes have shared a wedding and a christening. They have also had joint story writing days.
We look forward to more wonderful shared learning opportunities.
