Homework - Autumn 2021
Miss Oates - 20 Sep 2021
Year 2 Homework
English
Reading...children in Oak class shoud be
reading out loud for 10mins every day. This can be to a grown-up, sibling, teddy bear or even their pet! It is important that your child reads their
school scheme book as this is carefully matched to their phonic level, language development and comprehension skills - it is great to read this lots of times. However, we also want to encourage a
love of reading so please support your child in choosing their own books to read as well - Ripon library has a fantastic children's section!
Book talk is also very important so please spend time
discussing what has been read. Below are some ideas for questions you could ask or starting points for discussions...
Fiction:
Can you summarise the story for me?
Tell me who your favourite character was and why?
What do you think will happen next? Why do you think this? What are the clues?
What was the message in this story?
How is the character feeling in this moment?
Are there any similarities between this story and a story you have read before?
Non-fiction:
Tell me your favourite fact you learnt in this book.
What is the contents page used for?
Tell me about thge layout on this page. (title, sub-heaidngs, captions, diagrams)
Did you find this book interesting? Why or why not?
Explain to me something you have learnt.
Phonics/spelling...each week a spelling/word investigation will be sent out, linked to the work we have been completing in class. This will be sent out via SeeSaw and named 'homework' on a Friday and is to be completed by the following Wednesday.
Maths
Please practise your
number facts using
numbots at least 3 x per week. If you need your child's log-in sending again, please just let me know.
We are also building up our
number facts each week in class. Please keep an eye out on the class werekly update to find out what our current number fact is and supporting your child with learning this wherever you can. So far we have learnt...
- adding 1 (to single digits)
- doubles to 10
We need to know these confidently and quickly.
*please note...we use SeeSaw in class therefore activities and work may appear for different lessons throughout the week. Only assignments named 'homework' need to be completed at home.
