Weekly Update 4th October 2018

Mrs Wolfe - 04 Oct 2018

Cedar pupils have been busy learning about ‘Earthsea’ - the setting for our new focus text.  Following their drama work last week, they have begun re-telling and exploring the island of ‘Gont’, making maps to show understanding of the text, as well as exploring character.

This week in maths we have been exploring decimals and their place value, also investigating multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and the effect this has on decimal place value.  Some pupils have been improving their reasoning skills – really challenging themselves to prove their answers.

In our history work we used geography skills to explore the Roman Empire and how it grew over time.  Following this we used research skills to think about how powerful the Roman army was.
Today has been National Poetry Day!  Cedar enjoyed some choral performance poetry this afternoon – we looked at an extract from Macbeth, which was then performed by the class – it was had a very dramatic effect!

Our captains have been busy re-organising playtime equipment and planning games for pupils to enjoy.   They are doing a great job!

The reading ambassadors and librarians have been busy in the library, keeping things tidy and encouraging pupils to visit as much as possible.  The library is open every lunchtime for people to change their books, or sit and enjoy a quiet read.

The school council had their first official meeting this week - they seem to have lots of great things planned!

Our lucky winners of the Broughton Hall Children’s Literature Festival shared their visits with us today in celebration assembly – it sounds like they had a fabulous time and it was great to hear all about the exciting authors and illustrators that they got to meet.

If you haven’t already had a chance to book in for your child’s learning review meeting please do – if you are having any problems accessing this via the website please let me know so that we can make an appointment.

New classroom update – we are still awaiting the official signing off of the new buildings; we were very much hoping that we would be in this week, however we cannot move in until the official signing is done.  We will let you know as soon as we have an official date.
