Weekly Update 13th September

Mrs Wolfe - 13 Sep 2018

What an amazing return to school we have had!  Our trip to Murton Park was fantastic on Monday.  On arrival we were put into units in a timber fort where we then spent the day living life as a Roman soldier.  Our work on Roman numerals from our maths learning last week stood us in good stead as our literacy and numeracy skills were put to the test in training.  The next session involved lamp making, followed by an afternoon of physical training.  It was great to learn new skills and experience first-hand the daily life of a Roman soldier.

On Tuesday we had a thoughtful start of term service, we thought about care, our theme for the half-term.  This linked very well with our class R.E. and PHSCE sessions in which we have also been exploring values.

After the service KS2 pupils received first aid training from our trainer, Ruth Watson.  I hope the children have shared their learning about this at home.

This week in maths we have been putting our place value skills to the test, reading and writing numbers up to 10 million.

Our short stories are almost finished - I can’t wait to read them.

In science we have been learning about ‘Animals, including Humans’ and have so far looked at the stages of human growth and development as well as exploring the gestation periods of mammals.

Today we elected our new dale captains for the year - a huge well done to everyone who put themselves forward.  Everyone spoke brilliantly.  All the pupils in school voted and our new captains are as follows

Swaledale - Xander & Isabella

Wensleydale -Jasper & Max

Nidderdale - Sofia & Aadil

All in all a busy week!

Just a few reminders for pupils...

Please bring your planner in everyday, as well as your scheme reading book and free reading book.  Our home reading system is working well with lots of you changing your book already.  Please do keep reading at home as much as possible, practise spellings, SMIRFs and have a go at Times Table Rockstars.  Attendance is also very important - make sure you are in school before 8:55 - remember Early Birds can arrive at school from 8:45.

Look out for...exciting news about our Tom Palmer trip being sent home soon.
