Weekly Update 8th February 2018

Mrs Wolfe - 08 Feb 2018

We have had an amazing week in Cedar!  Pupils have worked their socks off getting their 500 Words entries sorted and have created some fantastic stories – I can’t wait to submit them.  I am sure the judges will enjoy reading them - fingers crossed everyone!  This week in maths we have been working on area and perimeter, looking at links to other areas of maths and then using and applying when reasoning and problem solving.  In science we worked in our ‘Light Learning Lab’ and prepared our very own educational programmes for other children, explaining how light enables us to see.  Our trip to West Tanfield was a huge success and we really enjoyed investigating the village.  Our traffic survey was very interesting – we couldn’t believe how much traffic passed through!  We did some sketching of the River Ure and the Marmion Tower, produced our own sketch maps of the village, identified human and physical features, looked out for job opportunities and even quizzed some of the locals!  We finished off with a lovely lunch at St Nicholas before heading back to school.  We returned wanting to find out even more, which is brilliant as we will be continuing work on our topic after the half term.  The topic projects brought in this week look fantastic!  As always, tremendous effort and hard work has been put in to them; pupils will be sharing and presenting them to KS2 tomorrow morning – we can’t wait!  A huge well done to our gymnasts, who did extremely well at the Outwood tournament on Monday and are now through to the next round!
It has been a very short first half term and Cedar pupils have worked extremely hard – as always, Mrs Buggy and I are both very proud of you all.  Have a super half term – remember to keep up with your maths targets and reading (a little every day makes a big difference).
