Weekly Update 18th January 2018

Mrs Wolfe - 18 Jan 2018

We’ve had two fantastic weeks back in Cedar class and our pupils have come back to school raring and ready to go.  On our return to the classroom we appeared to have been invaded by green foliage, creeping in and around tables and doorways!  Pupils have written some fantastic newspaper reports this week about these ’Bluchers’, which seem to be destroying buildings in our local area!  Our English work on the book ‘The Boy in the Tower’ is solving many unanswered questions - watch this space…
In maths we have been getting to grips with long division, mastering methods, reasoning and problem solving.
Our topic this term is ‘West Tanfield’ -  we’ve been using our geography and ICT skills to use mapping software in order to locate our place of interest.   On Wednesday we enjoyed sharing lunch with our friends from St Nicholas, who came to do a field study of their place of interest…’Kirkby Malzeard’.  We are looking forward to our own field study trip to partner school village next month.  There are some beautiful watercolour paintings of West Tanfield up in our classroom – we have adopted the style of J.M.W. Turner, whose own sketches of West Tanfield are on display at the Tate Modern, London.  The children have done a wonderful job of re-creating his use of colour and style.  Please pop in and see them if you can.  This term reading at home equals a dojo point - keep practising to collect your dojo’s!
Reminders:
  • Swimming begins Friday 19th January – don’t forget your kit
  • Spelling homework out Mondays – due in Fridays
  • Home Learning Tasks out Wednesdays – due in Mondays
All home learning is available to view on our homework page.
