Weekly Update - 17th May 2018

15 May 2018

Once again, Palm Class have really demonstrated excellent sporting skills as some of the children took part in a tennis festival at Ripon Tennis Club this afternoon. A great time was had by all and we can't wait to hear the results! The children who didn't attend the tennis competition had a great time in school doing an extra Forest School session with Mr Houghton and practising our French skills by revising what we know about French colours!
In English we have learnt to be very persuasive by writing letters to the Spanish government, demanding that bullfighting should be banned. We have worked hard on our use of persuasive phrases and enjoyed drafting and editing our lessons. In Maths we have worked on developing our time skills into the context of problems. We found using clocks to help with these really useful. In Topic we investigated tornadoes and hurricanes and used the internet to research facts before presenting them as a thought shower.
We have enjoyed reading 'Bill's New Frock' by Anne Fine in our whole class reading sessions. As well as exploring the text and practising our expressive reading techniques, we also used investigated unfamiliar words this week by finding their definitions in a dictionary. We are going to try and 'magpie' some of the vocabulary to use in our writing!

Have a lovely weekend!
