Weekly Update - 26th April 2018

The first couple of weeks of term have been really busy, but it has been great seeing such dedication from the children and enthusiasm to learn. What has been wonderful is reflecting on how much the children have matured since September - they really are a pleasure to teach! Over the past fortnight our maths focus has centred on 'Money'. The children have worked hard developing their understanding of money and using their understanding to solve problems. In English we have begun work around our new novel 'Toro! Toro!' by Michael Morpurgo. We have found out more about Spain (where the book is set) and have written questions and enjoyed interviewing Mr Donaldson (senior) all about cows! The children are really excited about our topic 'Extreme Earth' and there has been some fascinating facts in homework books. We really enjoyed using different coloured play-dough to make models of the different layers of the Earth's surface. We have also investigated electricity in science - coming up with our own lines of enquiry linked to circuits, and then investigating to find an answer. Monday was also an exciting day as we had a sharing afternoon with St Nicholas, West Tanfield - we all enjoyed sharing what we had learnt during last terms geography topic.
Please remember that for the final term, all children will receive the same spelling lists (taken from the Y3/4 curriculum words) and we are visiting Outwood Academy on Wednesday afternoon to take part in the Tri-Golf Festival! Have a lovely weekend!
