Class Weekly Update - 11th October 2018

Mr Rutter - 11 Oct 2018

It’s been a very exciting week in school this week! Palm and Cedar have moved into their brand-new classrooms and we managed to sneak over for a tour on Wednesday. We were very impressed!
We have just finished our work on place value in maths, but we will be using all of our knowledge all year round. It is very important to keep reminding ourselves about what the value of digits are. There were some great investigations from the Year 2s about counting in threes – we spotted patterns and thought about how we can use resources like numberlines and 100 squares to help us. Next week we will start looking at addition, this will build upon our place value work.

In our English, we heard all about how the other giants treated the BFG and decided that they were bullies. We used this to have some good PSHCE discussions about what bullying is and how we would solve it if it happened to us or someone we knew. We wrote a response to a letter from the BFG to advise him about what he can do. Continuing this theme, we started to make some posters about bullying for other school children. We were very good at thinking about the audience and purpose of our writing.

Today was a very, very busy day in our classroom. We were making a GIANT meal for the BFG. There was a huge amount of veg to be chopped and prepared. It was a good opportunity to make links to our science work on healthy eating – especially because giants need a lot of energy because they are so big! To make our meal even healthier, we made sure that we got some extra vegetables in by using a spiraliser to make courgetti and carrotti (healthy alternatives to spaghetti) with a smaller portion of pasta. We even managed to think about our British values by having a vote about whether to include garlic or not – we decided to put it in because most of us like garlic bread!

Please do join us on Monday at 9.15am at the Church for our Harvest Festival. The children have been preparing some artwork which they will talk about in the service.
