Class Weekly Update - 27th September 2018

Mr Rutter - 27 Sep 2018

Everyone has been working extremely hard this week. We have been planning and writing our very own stories in the style of Jack and the Beanstalk. We shared an alternative version called 'Jack and the Baked-Beanstalk' - which had one or two differences from the classic story. We came up with lots of ideas about what we could change about the story to make it our own. We had such a range of ideas, from a sausage-stalk to a marshmallow pizza stalk. Some stories had giants at the top, but others had some very intersting creatures hiding at the top!

Our maths investigations have been focused on comparing groups of objects and numbers, introducing the greater than and less than symbols (< and >). We talked about the symbols being like crocodiles, where the mouth is always going to try to eat the biggest number (this helps us to remember which way around they need to go). We went on to test our skills of comarison today by putting different quantities of objects in order based on how many were in each group (or in some cases how long they were!). There was some fantastic teamwork and the children showed off their strategies to help them check their counting.

Linking with the BFG, we have looked at 'dream' art work by Salvador Dali. We looked at some famous examples of his surrealist work, and work by other surrealist artists as well. We thought about what made them 'dream-like' and whether we liked them or not. There were lots of amazing thoughts shared. We will be having a go at our own artwork in the coming weeks.

In our RE work we have also linked the theme of dreams with a famous story from the Bible. We found out all about Joseph and his special dreams. We have designed our own coats for Joseph - making sure that we remembered all of the colours!
