Class Weekly Update - 13th September 2018

Mr Rutter - 13 Sep 2018

This week we have been blown away by the enthusiasm from the children! They have really been trying hard to impress us with their hard work.

Our English focus has been on Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been learning the story (so that we know it inside out!) and using it to inspire some writing. The children have thought about all of the different adjectives that they could use to describe the giant, Jack, the beanstalk and all of the other people and objects in the story. We have also looked at an alternative version which has been written from the giant's perspective. We thought about how the giant feels and what he might do next. If the children's ideas are anything to go by, Jack had better watch out!

Understanding place value has been our focus in maths. In particular we have been thinking about what each digit is worth (tens and ones) and exploring different ways of partitioning numbers. This area of maths is essential for understanding numbers and links to so many other areas which we will look at later this year. Please do reinforce at home where you can - watch out for two-digit numbers and see if they can partition them into tens and ones.

On Tuesday we had a special visitor in school to teach us all about first aid. Ruth showed the children how to put someone in the recovery position, and explained how we can get help if there was an emergency. She may have asked the children to practise on you at home - so don't be alarmed if they start trying to put you in the recovery position!

If you haven't looked at our Newsletter for the half term, please do so as it has lots of useful information about routines some ideas for supporting your child with their learning and developing their independence.

Please do keep up with reading at home - it has been fantastic to see the children enjoying their books (including our brand new ones!). I am also looking forward to seeing how we got on with our spelling investigations at home - please do speak to me if you have any questions about this!
