Weekly Update - 19.7.18

Mr Rutter - 19 Jul 2018

A fabulous week to end an amazing year!

We’ve been finishing out Peter Pan work with some drama this week. Inspired by our friends in Palm and Cedar, we had our own ‘mini-play’ of Peter Pan. We really got into character and showed how well remembered the story. We also interviewed Peter and Captain Hook to find out more about them and how they felt what happened in the story.

Our maths work has been focused on how we approach problems methodically. We were given clues about a number and had to narrow down the options to eliminate numbers that didn't fit the clues. We used our knowledge of place value, addition and times tables to find our mystery number.

We have also been reflecting on the year and thinking ahead to next year. Everyone has worked incredibly hard this year, and should feel very proud of all that they have achieved. Our Year 2 children are ready for the next step as they move to Year 3 and our Year 1s are now ready to become the role models for the rest of Oak Class when they return as Year 2s in September.

The children are ready for a well-earned rest over the Summer break. It would be really helpful if they could continue reading as much as possible, as well as practising their SMIRFs targets. All of the children should still have their spelling homework from the year and should use the break as a chance to review these.

To end the year we have our special Leavers Service here at school (from 10am) and a family picnic from 12. Following this, we will have games on the field until 3pm at which point we will finish for the Summer. Please do join us if you are free.

Finally, I would like to thank you all for a wonderful year - the children have really worked hard and I have loved teaching them. Thank you for all of the support. I look forward to seeing you in September for the start of the new year.
