Class Weekly Update - Summer 2, Week 3 (21.6.18)

This week we have been on a ‘hat hunt’ after sharing the story of the Queen’s Hat. We have started to write our own version of the story and thought about the other places in London that the hat might go. It has swirled around the Shard, blown through the Tower of London, floated over Wembley Stadium and drifted through Wimbledon. We had to think carefully about which prepositions would work with the places we have chosen.

We have followed the hat through London and learned all about the famous buildings there. For instance, did you know that Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms? The children have been really interested in finding out all about our capital city. We have even created some of our own masterpieces in the style of Picasso (see images below!).

In Design Technology, we have started to design our own hats for the Queen. We have thought carefully about what we think is important in the design process, e.g. comfort, waterproof and weight. We will start to make these next week, so please do bring in any spare materials you might have (ask your child what they think they need for their design). Once we have made them we will evaluate them to see if they meet the purpose that we designed them for.

In Maths, we have been looking at weight this week, starting off with comparing different objects to decide which whether they were heavier, lighter or balanced. We then started to look at more mathematical ways to measure weight by introducing grams. Next week we will look at kilograms and use our knowledge to make bread. If you do any baking over the weekend, it would be great if you could take a photograph of the different weights that you measure so that we can look at them together.

Last week we were all really impressed with how much everyone has been reading at home. Please keep this up; it is really having a huge impact on our work in school.
