Class Weekly Update - Summer 2, Week 2 (14.6.18)

Mr Rutter - 14 Jun 2018

We have been continuing our ‘Dragon Hunt’ in our maths work this week. We followed instructions to get from our classroom to a hidden dragon on the other side of the field. We had to listen very carefully so that we took the right number of steps and made quarter turns in the correct direction. We have also made our own maps and written some instructions to get from one point to another. It would be helpful to reinforce this at home by asking the children to make quarter and half turns clockwise and anti-clockwise.

In our writing we have replaced dragons in our Dragon Machine story with other creatures. We had some great ideas such as unicorns, llamas and turtles. There were some fantastic stories and we have all really tried hard to edit our work to make it even better. Watch out for these as they are added to our map on our Topic wall.

We were treated to a special music workshop on Tuesday morning called ‘Birdsong’. We listened to different bird sounds then recorded our own versions. The visitors then sped up our voices to make them sound just like the different birds we had listened to.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working on DT project where we try out some different materials a special purpose and think about their suitability. We will talk about what we are doing next week, but if you have any unwanted fabrics, flexible plastic, carboard, and newspaper, please bring them in.

Today’s sports afternoon went really well – thank you to everyone who braved the strong winds and came to cheer us on. There was some really positive sportsmanship and encouragement from the children.
