Class Weekly Update - Summer 1, Week 6 (24.5.18)

Mr Rutter - 24 May 2018

This half term has just flown by! Our final week has been a very busy one again. Year 2 have been finishing off their SATs papers and our Year 1s have been working with Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson. I hear the Year 1s have been working very hard – take a look at their weekly update to find out what they have been getting up to!

This week Year 2 have been finishing off some writing about Jack and the Beanstalk. We have looked at how the story might have been if it had been written from the giant’s point of view. We wrote some letters from the giant to Jack explaining how we felt. We have also tried writing our own set of instructions about how to make a jam sandwich (luckily we all knew how to do that!). Some children even added a final step which said ‘clean up’ – we have that in writing!

For our maths work, we have been continuing to show our reasoning skills for a variety of different areas of maths – e.g. showing that when you add any two pairs of odd numbers, the answer will always be even. It’s a really important skill to be able to explain our reasoning, but it can also be very tricky. In between our reading papers, Year 2 have also been working with Palm Class to collect data to put into tally charts and represent it in different ways.

There is still no news about our resident blue tit family – we still have six eggs and no chicks! We wonder if we will see anything different after half term…
Please have a lovely half term break - and keep up reading! I wonder if anyone will earn more than 20 Dojos for their reading over half term? That sounds like a really good challenge!
