Class Weekly Update - Summer 1, Week 4 (10.5.18)

Mr Rutter - 10 May 2018

Although it has been a short week because of the bank holiday, we have certainly been very busy! Year 2 have been showing off all of their Maths skills this week in their arithmetic and reasoning SATs papers. We are all so incredibly proud of how hard you have worked and your mature attitude. Well done to all of our Year 2 children!

Our Year 1 children have been working with Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson this week, and they have been practising some really important Maths skills like knowing our 10 times tables. They have also been impressing us with their writing, inspired by hats. I'm sure they will be able to tell you all about it! Check out the Miss Oates' and Mrs Pawson's newsletter to find out more about what our Year 1s have been up to this week.

In between our SATs papers, the Year 2s have spent time in Palm class with Mr Donaldson - a really great opportunity to show how ready they are to become Year 3s in just a few short months. They have been telling me all about their learning with the rest of Palm Class (including lots of facts about Spain). They have also been showing off their very best writing about the Tour de Yorkshire.

We have also been spending a lot of time using our reading skills in class. It is really important that we keep practising as much as possible so that we can build up our speed, whilst also making sure that we have a really good understanding of what we have read. The children were excited to try out our 1 minute reading challenge to see how many words they can read in 1 minute. Reading at home is crucial to support our learning in school. All of our learning depends on our reading skills. The more we read at home, the more we will grow to love it.

Next week we will be continuing to focus on our reading skills, but we will also be showing off some more of our writing skills.

Please note, there are no certificates/stars this week due to the Maypole performance tomorow afternoon.
