Class Weekly Update - Spring 1, Week 5 (8.2.18)

Mr Rutter - 08 Feb 2018

Weekly Update - 8th February 2018

Oak class have really enjoyed their final week looking at Magic. We began by trying to help Tiptap get a job as a handyman. We thought about what would make him sound like a reliable handyman, and explaining what jobs he might be able to do for people in his village. We then wrote some very convincing adverts to go in the local newspaper.

Later in the week, we have being focusing on the magic from the story of Aladdin. We have made our own magic carpet (which will be sewn together over half term) and done some fantastic independent writing about Aladdin, his magic carpet and of course the magic lamp.

In maths we have continued our multiplication work, looking at problem solving with arrays, doubling (and the two times table) and finally the five times table. We are very good at counting in twos and fives, but it is trickier to remember how they link to multiplication. Perhaps over half term you could keep practising this and make links - for example 3X2=6 (three groups of two is six).

Some of the children went to take part in a gymnastics competition on Monday - well done to all of you for representing our school so well.

On behalf of the whole of Oak team, we hope you have a lovely half term break.

Some reminders:

- Don't forget to keep reading lots for our reading challenge! We will be presented with our new books from last time tomorrow.
- Keep practising your spellings - they will really help with your writing and reading.
- Practise your SMIRFs instant recall facts (this will make your maths much quicker!).
