Class Weekly Update - 21st February

Mr Rutter - 21 Feb 2019

I think the children have really earned a break! It’s been a very busy half-term in school and the children have really worked hard to shine with their work and positive attitude to learning.

In our final week we have been busy with our story writing skills. We have planned and written our own story based around a castle. We genereted some exciting vocabulary and plot ideas, then brought them together in some brilliant stories! We even had some trainee teachers come to see our writing in progress. There were some fantastic ideas. It’s going to be tricky to choose one writer of the week!

In our maths work, year one have looked at doubling numbers, whilst year 2 have been looking at using the multiplication symbol. We have also started to think about times tables by linking counting in twos to the two times table. There have been some really good investigations! Mrs Pawson spent some time looking at shape with the children on Monday and reported that the children were great at identifying different properties of shapes.

We we were lucky to have Mrs Brassington join us on Wednesday for a final ‘big bake’ as a class on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Brassington has been working with us in small groups for the half term to make soup and we rounded the half term off by making some delicious scones. We are all very grateful to her for giving up her time and share her delicious recipes.

Homework for this half term is to read every single day! A little bit of reading every day makes a huge difference so it would be great to start the habit over the half term break. The children have their school reading books and our new 'Hot Books' to look at. Hot Books are books to be shared with a grown up (some of them are challenging and the children will need your help to read and understand) and develop comprehension skills as well as give you the chance to explore more exciting themes.

I hope that you all have a lovely half term, and that the children come back energised for another fantastic half term at school.
