Class Weekly Update - Spring 2, Week 6 (29.3.18)

Mr Rutter - 29 Mar 2018

Our last week of Spring Term   has been yet another busy one! We really showed off our learning when we had our visitor in school on Tuesday - I was really proud of all of you.

We have finished our term in space this week. You may have noticed that our classroom has been temporarily transformed into a space station. We have written some lovely poetry inspired by astronauts and what it would be like to go into space. We performed our poetry this morning and we were all really impressed with the imaginative ideas and exciting vocabulary that we used.

Our Science Week afternoons have seen us researching famous astronauts Valentina Tereshkova (the first woman in space) and Helen Sharman (the first Briton to go to space). We also learned about what it is like on the International Space Station - did you know that because there is no gravity, astronauts have special bars to put their feet under to stop them floating up inside the space station?

We really enjoyed making some rockets to go along our zipwires made from string. Our rockets had to hold an egg capsule with a chick-stronaut inside - Tim Cheape! We found that the rough string zipwire was slower than the plastic string. We also found that bigger, heavier rockets were slower.

In our Maths lessons we have been looking at quarters as fractions. We spent a lot of time thinking about how the bottom number (denominator) tells us how many equal groups we are looking for. We will be carrying on with this after Easter.

We had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny and had an egg hunt as a class treat. The Easter Bunny was pleased to hear about how hard we have been working in Oak Class.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter with plenty of rest after lots of hard work this term.
