Weekly news update 12th March

Mrs Gemma Pawson - 12 Mar 2020

This week we have been very busy baking and making for our Fairtrade Cafe this morning. The children felt very proud to have made so many cakes using Fairtrade ingredients. We even had a Fairtrade tablecloth and some Fairtrade roses. Importantly the children have learnt why Fairtrade is important and thought about how we would feel if we were the farmers and makers. I feel very proud of them, their ideas and empathy are a real credit to them. I also feel really positive that in the future our world will be fairer with such strong young people in charge.

Today we have had great fun exploring the Bee Bots, using our mathematical skills of position and direction as well as developing simple coding skills. We have had lots of ideas about things we could do next. We all (Mrs Pawson included) need to practise understanding and using our left and right directional skills, perhaps we could try this at home. We play a simple game of Mr Bear says... take two steps forward...

We are looking forward to coming in our sportive wear tomorrow and running the mile. Please remember to bring £2 donation towards Sport Relief. We will need to be suitably dressed for a day at school, warm and prepaired to get muddy even in our sport kit.

This week we have taken in the reading bags for another wash... watch this space for future updates, please keep reading at home. I can always print off photos for the children to share with their school friends and talk about their reading adventures, just send them via my school email gpawson@kirkbymalzeard.n-yorks.sch.uk

The children have been very responsible in their attitude to keeping each other safe and keeping nasty bugs out. Lots of hand washing and even posters to remind us. Please could I politely remind everyone to wash their hands as they come into school, even if it is just to drop off for a few minutes. This applies to all grownups and children. Thank you.

We look forward to sharing our community worship with you tomorrow morning at 9am. Have a fabulous and safe weekend everyone! I look forward to seeing you next week with more new learning adventures planned.
