Mrs Pawson - 16 Jan 2020

Acorn Class have been amazing learners this week. We have started each day by finding our 'mini me' challenge and getting busy straight away. Some of our challenges have been to name different birds, share a story, play a game using our tricky words and sorting different wildlife. We are really proud with how independent we have all been and how much we have learnt.
This week, every morning , we have played a game of connect 4 (with different rules) to self register. We have to read our own name and add it to the game, later we look at the patterns and arrays that we have made. We have been using lots of exciting mathematical vocabulary.
Another new thing we have been very excited about... we now have three (soon to be five) different reading sacks to bring home for the night. There is 'Everywhere Bear' (please draw a picture or take a photo to add to his adventure book), who loves an adventure, 'bring a book from home' which we all love and 'Edward Dog' (please write in his reading record book), who likes to hear us read at home. We have been super excited to bring these home and to share them the next day in school. Your help at home with this is very appreciated, thank you. Please can children bring the books back on the next school day so that everyone gets a turn during the school week. Thank you.
We have moved our family class tree and have made a photo album with the pictures. If you have any recent pictures from adventures at home that the children might like to share please bring them in or email them to me on my school email. A huge thank you.
We have also been busy investigating the animals who live in Percy's park, we have been wondering about the words 'hibernate' and 'nocturnal'. We are going to be thinking and using these words more next week. We love new and exciting ideas and vocabulary!
We have been challenging our selves to make 5 in lots of different ways this week, we have used  a 'part/whole' model to help us (pop in and have a look)! We know that you can make five in many different way, such as two and three, or one and four. We have been exploring ways to record our ideas.
We read a fabulous book 'The Dot' this week and have been discovering our inner artists.
We are really looking forward to our outdoor adventures tomorrow afternoon with Oak Class, we might even practise sawing some wood.

Next week look out for more number investigations, more new phonics sounds and a brand new Percy story written by Acorn Class. I think we will all need lots of sleep over the weekend so that we are bright and breezy on Monday, ready to learn!
