Start of term update January 2020

Mrs Pawson - 09 Jan 2020

Welcome back!

We had a fabulous end to our first term in school, we were all so proud of the children in their Nativity. We had some great learning adventures and we are looking forward to seeing where our learning takes us this term.
This term has got off to a flying start. Everyone was so excited to share their stories about Christmas, we all shared our favourite moments. It was great to hear about new books, bikes and even fire breathing dragons, Father Christmas has been really busy! We have also celebrated lots of birthdays over the holiday, some of us are very excited to be five!
This week we have been wondering what was inside our mystery brown paper parcel... there were some clues which we have been investigating. We have had some great ideas and can't wait to see what is inside! We are busy planning some exciting adventures around our mystery parcel, I wonder where our learning will take us?
We have started our maths adventures by exploring the concept of zero! We have been knocking bottles off walls and telling number stories. We have RVN made our own games to play.
There have been lots of new challenges in our classroom this week including a bird watching station, we have spotted so many birds and we learning to identify them. This year we will be taking part in the Big Bird Watch. You can register to take part at home too.

We are really lucky to have Mrs Cooper joining us on some mornings, it is really exciting to share our learning with someone else, she has been really impressed with all of our challenges and learning this week. We had a great music lesson with Mrs Harris today and we look forward to working with her for our special music lesson each Thursday.

We have been challenging ourselves with our reading this week, it is great to see that some children have had new books for Christmas to share at home, it has been great to hear about everyone's reading adventures over the holiday. Reading at home makes such a big difference to our confidence and fluency. If you have any questions or would like some tips or ideas to try at home, pop in and ask at anytime. I wonder which class will win the Golden Reading Award? This term we will have three special reading bags to bring home, each with something slightly different in it. We will start bringing them home on Friday. Please can I ask that they come back on the next school day so that everyone gets a turn. Keep a look out for more reading adventures coming soon! Reading is very important to us all!

We are looking forward to inviting the community to our whole school collective worship tomorrow morning at 9am. We have been thinking about the life of Jesus and what happened in his early life. Please come and share our workshop with us, join in with our discussions and share our ideas with us.
Our forst celebration assembly will be next Friday at 9am.
A small reminder- we spend a lot of time outside, in our outdoor classroom and the wildlife area. Please can children come to school wearing their winter uniform, they need warm coats, welly bobs, gloves, hats and scarves as well as an extra pair of warm boot socks. We have puddlesuits to keep us dry. Thank you
