Weekly Update - 28th November

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 28 Nov 2019

It has been such an exciting week this week for Acorns...we have begun our Nativity practise! We have been learning all about the story in class through books, storytelling and our artwork. The children have impressed us with how well they have learnt the story and how much they have challenged themselves with recreating it. We have even been challenging ourselves to write about the story which is full of tricky words! All this learning is helping us in our rehearsals as we write our own script with the help of Oak class.

The children now all know their parts for the Nativity and hopefully have shared this with you - if they haven't or they have forgotten, do pop in and ask. We will be sending out letters (via the website email) about tickets for the performances and costumes soon, please keep an eye out and check your junk email. We will also post the information on this page.

During the Nativity the 'friends' of Kirkby School will be serving mulled wine and mince pies. If you are availble to donate cakes or mince pies (no nuts please) or if you are able to help serve on the night, please get in touch with Anne Watt or Mrs Pawson.

Our phonics learning is going well - we can't believe how many sounds we have on our phonics tree and how many words we have on our tricky words train! We have now begun to look at some of our consonant digraphs - these are two consonants that work together to make one sound. The digrpahs are:
sh = shop
ch = chip
th = thin or that
We learnt some rhymes to help us remember the digraphs and these will be coming home on your child's phonics ring. We love seeing how much the children are using their phonics keyring as frequent practise is key to learning early reading.

We had 9 children this week who read 5 times or more during the week - fingers crossed for the golden book. We are very eager to earn it in our class! Hopefully the children are helping to remind you to write in their yellow reading records.

In our maths adventures this this week we have been exploring numbers both more than and less than a given number, I wonder if you can try it at home... ‘I’ve got five pasta shapes... if you have one more how many will you have? If you have one less how many will you have?

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended their child's learning review. We are so proud of all the children and loved being able to share that with you and your child. The children were very responsible in leading their meetings and we saw this as a very positive start to their learning journey.
