Weekly Update - 17th October 2019

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 17 Oct 2019

Acorns have been super excited this week as we have welcomed Mr Anson. The children have involved him in all their learning and wowed him with all their learning trhough play!

We have been working hard on our cooperative learning goals - active listening, helping others and looking after the classroom - and have filled our team jar very high everyday this week. We are still aiming to fill our jar to the top and become 'a wow team' - I wonder if next week will be our week?!

Wednesday was a wonderful day and the children were fabulous at showing our visitors what a great school we are! They were very welcoming to everyone who visited us on our open day and talked confidently about what they were doing.

As the weather has got colder we have been furthering our forest school skills including lighting a camp fire! The children have been learning how to be safe around the fire when it is lit as well as learning how to leave the wildlife area safe after having a fire. And our skills didint stop there...we have also been learnig how to whittle - I wonder what creations the children will have in mind.

Our Hairy Maclary stories have continued to entertain us this week. We have talked lots about the characters and their thoughts as well as the plot of the stories. The children are beginning to become very familiar with the story plots which is allowing them to retell the stories in their own words. Have they told you the story at home? We even built a huge story map outside to help us use props to retell.

We have been doing lots of sorting this week. We have sorted by colour, shape, size and much more. I wonder if anyone can complete any sorting at home? It has been quite a challenging concept for us to undertand and will need lots of practice.

Please keep practising your phonics sounds at home - these are all on the blue key rings in the children's bags. Can you spot any of your new sounds around the house? If any of the adults would like the sounds explaining then please ask one of us on a morning/afternoon or drop us an email to arrange a phonecall. We would be delighted to help you as we understand that many of us did not learn phonics ourselves at school and it plays such an important part of learning how to read and write.

Well done on our new reading challenge - six children in Acorn class had been heard read 5 or more times within the week. Some children had even been heard upto 8 times!!! Anyone who has been heard read more than 5 times will also be entered into a raflle to win a book token, which will be drawn at the end of the Autumn term. We are looking forward to finding out which class will win the reading challenge this weeek in celebration assembly.
