Weekly update 3rd October

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 03 Oct 2019

This week we have been exploring our wordless books, everyone has excitedly shared their stories with each other and with us. We have been challenging ourselves to use exciting vocabulary in our stories. We have been sharing stories about Hairy Maclary, developing our understanding of stories using story stones and story maps. Repeated retelling and really getting to know a story well, helps children to become emursed in a story and then to make it their own. We read stories many times and encourage the children to do the same.

Our storybook bag has been very exciting this week, we have enjoyed sharing favourite stories from home and can’t wait to see what books the children choose to share with us. Look out for the bag as everyone will have a turn!

Tomorrow we are sending home our first sounds (phonemes) on a phonics ring. This is to keep in their school bag so that we can add to it and you can use it at home to share learning. We are also sending some information about early phonics (including some helpful hints and tips) and a glossary of vocabulary that the children throughout school use. We have also added a cursive alphabet as we teach cursive letter formation across the whole school.
We are passionate about early phonics, writing and reading so if you have any questions please ask.

In our number work this week we have been exploring 4. This has been really exciting as we are all 4!
We have been challenging ourselves to understand the specialness of four and to investigate what we can do with it. We have really worked hard on our number sense this week. I wonder what numbers we will challenge ourselves to investigate next week?

We have been thinking carefully about kindness this week and have started to celebrate acts of CARE (our school ethos) by putting special hearts on our classroom wall. Well done everyone so far. We need to keep working hard to be kind, happy and adventurous learners.

We have been painting with some of our autumn treasures this week, printing leaves, using thistles as paint brushes and exploring using conkers to roll paint in. Great work everyone.

Finally we are all looking forward to our Harvest celebrations on Wednesday 9th October at 9.15am in Church, we look forward to seeing you there.
