Newsletter-Autumn term one

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 05 Sep 2019

We would both love to say a huge welcome to all of our fabulous children and their families. We have met so many Grandparents and friends already and it is super watching the children show you around their classroom with such pride.

The children have all been fabulous so far this week and we are very excited to be working with them. If there are any wobbles as the reality of routines and a little bit of tiredness effects how we feel, then we will reassure and help individual children. Children settle quickly once they start playing alongside their friends, it is much harder for the person leaving them. Please rest assured that if we ever felt a child wasn’t settled or wasn’t well we would ring you.

We both love talking about the children, their interests and their enthusiasms and we like to share stories from home as well. If there is anything you would like to tell us about your child or ask us about school, please do. Our classroom door is always open but if you would like a quieter time please let us know and we can arrange it.

Once we are settled into school we will be introducing you to our learning journey system, which is fabulous to share. We also put photographs on the wall to show our journey as a class throughout the whole year, this is very special to share.

Our classroom
Our classroom is set up so that children can access all areas of their learning environment both inside and outside, the children have been fabulous at getting the resources they need from the shed and around the classroom. We have been working at tidying away too which is a really important skill.
our. Our classroom will change and develop as the children do, we change things around and add new things to spark interest and learning each week.

Our learning
This week we have been getting to know each other and our school. Our learning follows the interests and needs of the children rather than following a set topic. We cant wait to discover each child’s special interests, already this week we have added some dinosaurs to our classroom and told a story today all about the three little dinos... what a lot of roaring!

Once we have all settled in we will begin looking at letter sounds (phonics), we will send home information. This is always a very exciting time for children starting school.

This year we are rebranding our writing area as a message centre, mark making and writing messages to each other using symbols and pictures, this means that right from the start children can write messages to each other and to us!

In our maths we will start to look at numbers, shapes and measures that are important to us, of course we are all very excited that everyone is 4!

All of the areas of learning in our class develop through play and as such different things naturally overlap. One of the biggest things we focus on is independence and speaking and listening skills. We spend a lot of time helping the children to become strong excited learners and to understand what learning means to us!

Helpful things to remember
We have started to self register in the mornings, putting a peg onto our school dinner or packed lunch pockets (these are in the cloakroom), please help your child to remember to do this.
We encourage the children to put their own bags away this helps them to be independent and to know where their own things are, your help with this is really appreciated.
We all need a coat in school everyday.
Please name everything, a sharpie pen on the label is great as it doesn’t fall out.
Please let us know if someone different is collecting your child from school, we can not let them go with family or friends if we have not been told about the arrangement.
Children need to bring their bikes into school on Monday 9th September and the bikeablilty permission form needs to be returned to school. Thank you
