Weekly Update - 4th July 2019

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 04 Jul 2019

Have you seen our caterpillars lately? There have been big changes! We have been estimating how long we think it will be before they transform into butterflies - our predictions vary from days to weeks to months and even years! We wonder who will be right? The children have been great at observing the changes and are checking on them every single morning!

As well as observing our caterpillars this week, we have been thinking lots about time and differerent types of measures. We are beginning to become aware of what events happen at what time of day and are using some time language such as 'o'clock'. We have also been comparing sizes and looking at how to estimate and then measure to check. We wonder what you could estimate and measure at home? Our investigations in class have been about the size of animals which then led us onto discussions baout endangered animals!

Once again the children have been writing non-stop. We are super proud of how hard they have been working on using their phonics skills, writing in full sentences and using features of a narrative. We have even seen on the EExAT that some children have been continuing their writing adventures at home and have used their phonics keyring to help them - what a great idea! Don't forget that you can upload your own pictures from home using your EExAT login to share your child's learning with us. The children love it when we know what they have been up to.

We are very excited to watch KS2's performance next week during their dress rehearsal - it has been sounding great so far!

The children are doing great with their reading. However we have noticed that lots of children are no longer reading at home. Reading is a vital skill that supports many other areas of learning and therefore we need as much practise as possible. Please try to read with your child as many times as possible during the week, even a couple pages a night will make a difference! Don’t forget to record your child’s home reading in their yellow reading record.

We're super excited that the sunshine has once again returned! To help keep the chidlren safe in this weather please can you try to provide them with a sunhat and if you wish, suncream in a named bottle. We have a basket of suncream which is left in the classroom to make is quick and easy for us all to put our own suncream on before outside play.

Please come and join us on Monday at 1:30pm as we have a very special assembly to say goodbye to Mrs Peacock.

Friday 19th July is our final day at school for this academic year. During the morning we will be attending the school leavers assembly in the hall. We expect this assembly to finish shortly before lunch. If you are attending the assembly and wish to take your child home at this point you are welcome to - please let your class teacher know in advance so we can inform Mrs Wilcox of lunch numbers. You will have received an email regarding this earlier today.

Please note, bikes and scooters are not permitted to be ridden on the playground or along the path before and after school. This is to keep everyone safe. Please ensure that your child(ren) are not riding on them when they come through the school gate or until they have left the school premises at the end of the day. Thank you.
