Weekly update 13th June 2019

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 13 Jun 2019

Firstly, we would like to say how fabulous the children were this afternoon, what great role models they were for our new starters. They have played alongside and supported everyone with great kindness. Well done everyone we are really proud and think you will make fantastic year one pupils, lucky Mr Rutter!

We are looking forward to our visit to Ripon Library tomorrow afternoon, we have been sharing some stories about libraries today, with cats, bears and mice all having great adventures in the library! I wonder what adventures and stories we will share tomorrow.

This week we have been exploring money, using coins of different values to buy flowers and serve cakes in the cafe.

We have been refocusing our attention on making our sounds carefully. Using our soft phonic sounds is really important it helps us with both our reading and our writing. For example if we say ‘bu’ for ‘b’ rather than a soft ‘b’ sound as in ball, we will write the word bat at bu-a-t. This takes lots of practise and your help at home is really important, making sure we all use the soft sounds rather than hard sounds or letter names when segmenting and blending words for readin and writing.

We have made some great pieces of Mondrian artwork this week using paint roller balls, black masking tape, black markers and rulers. This was inspired by a picture in a story that we read together last week. We love to see how the children’s interests develop and blossom. This week we have really embraced our engineering skills outside from platforms to apex roofing, the children have explored and developed their ideas. We are especially proud of how they have organised their learning to work and play safely. Thinking about the risks and managing them well. This is a huge learning milestone, keep it up. What ‘risky’ adventures will be encountered next week?

Today we were exploring our wet world in our puddlesuits... listening to the rain on our hoods, feeling the water dropping from the trees, smelling the wet grass... we have had a fantastic time. We did have a few wet feet, some of us have holes in our welly boots! If we could ask for a spare pair of socks in our book bags or PE kits that would be great. All of our spare socks and tights have gone home and not been returned so if you have any we would appreciate them back, thank you.

We have been hearing about people’s reading adventures at home, we love to read comments in the yellow reading records and share them with the children. Some children have finished their book and they make a great thing to keep and look back on. Please feel free to pop a comment into the reading record, or anyone else who reads with your child.

Next week is sports afternoon, we are busy planning and getting excited. The friends are serving hotdogs after the event, look out to order yours and please see Anne Watt if you can help in anyway.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone and look forward to adventures next week.
