Weekly update 23rd May 2019

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 23 May 2019

What an exciting day we have had today, the children were very enthusiastic to talk to the different visitors in our school and shared their play and learning with them. We were really proud of them.

We have been walking the ‘story path’ in our storytelling this week using, story sacks, stones, wooden spoons and jigsaws. Our ideas are getting more exciting and creative and we are using all of our writing skills. We have read some really interesting stories to give us some ideas, we loved ‘A recipie for a story’ ‘Perfectly Norman’ and ‘Under the same sky’. We are predicting what ‘The Story Machine’ will be about, maybe a tractor that chugs out stories was one idea! The river and the bridge in the small world has proved to be a very adventurous story setting!

We are continuing to explore blends this week we started by eating pretzels and prowling (pr) around our classroom, then we skipped (sk) and twirled a scarf (sc). We have been doing some fantastic word investigations today, we started by looking at the word ‘snail’. We could find both a blend and a digraph which we then began to explore in different words. We discovered that in the word ‘paint’ we had the same digraph but a different blend! We are spotting blends in so many different ways, from our reading books to Mrs Pawson’s ‘to do’ list. We are becoming fluent and confident which is great, keep up the effort everyone and keep practising over the holiday!

This week in our number work we have had a good look at number formation, we have learnt some rhymes to help us remember. We all love number stories and problems so we are putting lots of effort into recording them in different ways such as drawing pictures to explain our ideas and of course writing numerals. We have put in lots of effort and have really improved, we know that with determination and practise we will keep getting better.

Today we did some great hapa zome work (hammering leaves and petals onto fabric). The colours and patterns are beautiful. We have been leaning to identify different flowers and leaves, I wonder if you will spot any on your holiday adventures next week?

Thank you to everyone who came to our parents EExAT meetings this week, we appreciate your time in helping to get your child’s online journey up and running. Nearly everyone is there now! Remember you can send us a picture over the holidays of your adventures.

We are all really excited about tomorrow and have been practising our wiggle walking! Please don’t forget to check your emails for details about clothing. It is 50 year since the Very Hungry Caterpillar was published, some of us think that he is a very old caterpillar!

We have had lots of interest and questions about the sleepover taking place after half term. Thank you for taking so much interest and for talking to us about it. We are thrilled that so many children are so excited and we really want to work with everyone so that we can all take part in a way that suits us and we feel happy with. We can be really flexible with our arrangements so long as we have a plan in place so come and talk to us if you have any other questions. As soon as we know numbers we can let you know more details. The teachers are all very excited and we really want to make this a special thing to remember!

Have a fantastic half term everyone and we look forward to hearing all of your adventures soon!
