Weekly Update - 9th May 2019

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 09 May 2019

We were all so excited to see our school and the artwork on the TV at the weekend... our school field looked enormous. It was such an exciting weekend.

We are all looking forward to Urban Strides tomorrow. Please don’t forget to come in comfortable dance clothing for example joggers and a T-shirt, layers are good as our hall gets warm. We would like to invite you (as always) to our whole school celebration assembly at 3pm (please don’t come before as we will be working right up until 3pm), some children from across the school might treat us to a bit of a demonstration.

This week we have been investigating, glasses, plates, clubs (golf) and clarinets in our sound investigations (blends gl pl cl). What will we be investigating tomorrow? Keep practising all of your sounds to really build confidence for blending in reading and writing.

We have been looking at sharing in our number stories this week, doubling and halving in our problem solving. We have had some very interesting discussions around these ideas especially the idea of a ‘bigger half’ and how it doesn’t exist! The play dough has really helped us, I wonder if you can talk about our investigations at home.

We have loved the rain this week, we have splashed, painted, listened and written in the rain. Our puddlesuits have been fantastic they have kept us dry so we have had loads of fun. We were really lucky today when a Herron flew through our wildlife area. A few of us (Mrs Pawson included) discovered that we had some quite large holes in our welly boots so we have had wet feet. Some people’s feet have also been growing. Please can you have a check with your child to see if their wellies still fit. Spare sock in your chuld’s PE bag is always very useful.

Please don’t forget the EExAT workshop for families who haven’t yet been to one on Monday 20th at 3.30pm, bring your phone if you can as you can login then and there.

Next week is SATs for our Year 6 pupils, we wish them all lots of luck. There will be a few small changes (such as working inside during the mornings and different playtimes) during the week as we all work together to help them feel calm and ready to do their best.

Have a fantastic end to the week and keep reading lots of stories, magazines, shopping lists, signs, non-fiction at home, it really does help! If you read just 1 book a day to your child, they will have read 1825 books by the time they are 5! The vocabulary and wonder that will bring to a child is immeasurable!
