Weekly Update - 28th March 2019

Spring is here and what a great week we have had in the sunshine which is slowly appearing - some of the children have even been 'sunbathing' at playtimes! 

The children have been such great explorers this week with all their learning and have led us in many different directions. We have been exploring number patterns, how to make paint, how to make perfume, comparing weights and capacity, how to keep dry in a shelter, different things to make with sewing and so much more! We have also been completing some top secret missions today and will be finishing tomorrow - do make sure to check your child's bag on Sunday just incase! 

Thank you to everyone who has been able to make it to their child's learning review meeting. We love the way the children are beginning to talk about their learning and take ownership over what they do - this is such an important skill to develop! We can't wait to meet the rest of you next week. 

We have continued with our phase 4 blending work in phonics this week. The children are doing really well at recognising that these sounds are said really close together and are beginning to transfer this knowledge and undersating into their writing of words. We are also trying really hard to use our 'bottoms-up' cursive handwriting when writing our letters. 

Please make sure you are reading as much as possible with your child - every day where possible! The children are getting to grips with their phonics now and need lots of practise to help them become fluent readers. Their storytelling books will also help them read beyond their phonic ability and ensure they continue a love of reading. We have challenged the children to spot their phonics sounds when out and about as we are still finding some of the digraphs and trigraphs a litttle tricky to remember.
