Weekly Update - 21st February 2019

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 21 Feb 2019

We made it! It has been a long first half of our Spring term and we cannot say enough times how proud we are of the children for their resilience and hard work even through all the coughs and colds! Well done everyone!

We have had a busy week for special visitors this week. On Wednesday we had some trainee teachers visit us to see all our amazing learning. The children were very polite and friendly and talked to all our visitors about what they were doing and shared their exciting stories. We also had PC Sharon and PC Steph visit us on Wednesday. We had some great discussions about 'stranger danger'. The children were very mature with their discussions and listened well to learn how to stay safe. Our main learnings were: If a stranger (someone you don't know) talks to you, then you tell your parents or your teacher straight away. Even if the stranger is offering you something you really would like or they say they know someone you know then you still tell your parents or your teacher. We also discussed what a stranger might look like - the children thoughgt perhaps hey would look scary and maybe have a mask - but we learnt that they can look like absolutely anyone!

The children have been making us extra proud this week with all their stories they have been choosing to write and read to us. We have thought about the structure of a story and have used illustrations and story maps to make sure we have a journey in our story. The children then used some of their writing skills to add marks, words or sentences for extra detail. It has taken great concentration and effort but we have been super Betty Bees.

Due to sickness, illness and general tiredness all round, we have decided to continue with phonics revision this week. We have been consolidating our tricky words and all our phase 2 and phase 3 sounds. We have tried making our own words that we can read and then writing them, as well as seeing how fast we are with knowing our sounds.

Keep up the great work with your reading in the holidays. You can read your book more than once as well as find other stories to share and read. Remember we don't always need to read the words to tell the story.

After half term term we will be thinking about and taking part in Fairtrade fortnight, we will be looking at  lots of different Fairtrade products and will be having a cafe on Thursday 14th 3pm-4pm everyone will be welcome to join us, look out for more details nearer the time.

Finally, have a super half term break next week! We look forward to heairng about all your adventures when we get back!
