Weekly update 24th January 2019

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 24 Jan 2019

Wow what an amazing week we have had and it has truely flown by. I don’t often get the opportunity to work with the children for a whole week and I feel very privileged to have shared so much time with them. We started the week by waving Cedar class off on their adventures, which inspired us to write letters and postcards to them, our independent writing skills are really developing. Everyone knew exactly what they wanted to write or draw and envelopes were sealed with plenty of tape before we sent them to be posted. We have been inspired to investigate the adventures that our friends and family have been on this week, we have used maps and the globe to find places around the world.
We have spent plenty of time outside in our wildlife area, we are very proud to have befriended a robin. We are learning to sit still and quiet whilst we watch and listen. Next week we are taking part in the RSPB school bird watch, I wonder which other birds we will see?
This week we have designed and built our own den. The first attempt needed a few modifications but our second den was a great success. We sat in our den for a story and hot juice then suddenly it began to snow, we were so excited! We have been really interested in the ice, trying to melt it, painting on it, looking at patterns and reading a story all about Jack Frost. Come and see our story map in the reading area. We will tell you the story if you ask...
Today the children encouraged me to be a Betty Bee as we tried to make popcorn on our camp fire, it was great fun to watch and listen to the corn popping and it was delicious to eat.
In maths we have been trying to estimate numbers before counting. Our challenge has been to make a sensible estimate before we count carefully. We are all putting in lots of effort and have had lots of fun too.
In write dance this week we have been making big loops and swirls. We have used our bodies, chalks, walking fingers, ice, crayons...
Our favourite phoneme this week has been ‘ar’, as part of our continuous provision we made a car park using ‘ar’ words. The blue phonics rings will be updated tomorrow with the new sounds that we have been learning and using. Please keep practising at home, it really helps to share our learning with our friends and family.
A huge thank you for the donations of spare clothing both indoor and outdoor it is greatly appreciated.

This week as part of our collective worship we have been thinking about Jesus as the bread of life

‘I am the bread of life’ John 6:32-35

We have looked at the teaching of Jesus in the Bible, we shared our ideas about the ‘feeding of the five thousand’.We have also deepened our understanding of the work of charities such as food banks. We have thought about how we can help others. Today for our class worship we made bread which we shared with each other, we hope you enjoyed some of the bread at home as well.

Our wonder for the end of the week is ‘I wonder how you could help others and sustain them like Jesus did?’
