Spring 1 newsletter

Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates - 10 Jan 2019

A very happy new year to you all! We hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas and new year, we have really enjoyed listening to all of the adventures that the children have been sharing with us. We are very pleased to hear that Father Christmas stopped off at so many houses and seems to have left lots of exciting treats behind. The children have made us all giggle with their stories!

We would both like to say how very proud of the children we were in the run up to the end of term, we were busy right up to the very last minute, we literally ran out of time for all of our adventures. It was great to share the end of term service in Church with so many of our friends and family, what a fantastic end to our very first term at school.

We are off to a flying start for 2019 ! We have had a move around and a bit of a shake up in our indoor classroom and we think that the weather has moved things around for us outside!  We make changes every week to the resources and provocations that we set up for the children but a new term is a good time to change things a bit more. We have put a range of new ‘real’ resources in our home area, glass jars, knives and forks, vases and china plates to mention just a few. We want to show the children that we trust them to take care of their things and to help develop a higher level of care and respect. We believe that this is very important, we know that there might be a few breakages (there always is in a real home). We have talked with the children about how we will sort out any breakages, this is an important life skill. We have a few new loose parts, which we are excited to see what they become and a cosy reading area.
We have been spending as much time as possible outside in the wildlife area or our outside classroom, even the rain proved exciting and we used the puddles to help us with some water colour paintings. We  build so many skills and  learning styles whilst playing and learning outside, the children are highly engaged with the outside world and motivated to learn in different ways.
With this in mind we would like to request that children bring outdoor learning clothes with them everyday. A pair of waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat, along with warm gloves, socks, hat and scarf are essential. Some children do not have a pair of welly boots or a outdoor coat, we have a few spares but not enough boots of the right size for everyone. Thank you for your help with this, we know that keeping track of uniform can be quite tricky.

We continue with our learning journey photo wall, which is great fun to talk about with the children, do pop in and see it. Last terms is full to bursting and we have plans to take over a new wall for the Spring Term. Watch as the photographs and captions appear.
In phonics we continue to discover sounds and words in phase three, whilst making sure we use all of the sounds and words we have learnt so far. There are lots to learn and we love using them in our reading and writing. We have a brand new message box and a lovely red postbox in class as we like to send each other letters and messages using our sounds and writing.
In maths we have started the term by looking at number, we have especially been thinking about counting backwards from different numbers this week, the puddles have been a great source of counting fun and problem solving. As often happens we have also been spotting lots of shapes, doing some measuring, estimating... maths is literally everywhere!

During collective worship this term we are looking at the life of Jesus and the things we can learn from his teachings. This week we have been thinking about ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘What do we already know about him?’ We have looked at Epiphany and the special gifts Jesus brings to our lives. Our Friday wonder is: ‘I wonder what gifts you might bring to our school?’ Our whole school celebration assembly continues to be on a Friday at 3pm (starting tomorrow 11th January), please join us when you can. Certificates and ‘star of the week’ will resume next week.

Finally we would like to thank parents for their donations of spare clothing. We have also bought several sets of spare items in the last term, however we have totally run out of tights, leggings and pants. If you have any school spares at home could we ask them to be returned please, the children need them when accidents of any nature occur. Thank you.

We are very excited about the next term, we are busy planning our next trip (the children have lots of ideas) as well as many adventures in school. We will let you know all about them on the website. If you have any questions please always ask us, we both love to talk about the children, their adventures and learning. Thank you for your continued support and for such great children to work with, we are privileged!
