Weekly Update - 20th December 2018

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 20 Dec 2018

What a fantastic first term we have had! The children have been amazing and have shown great resillience, coming to school even when tired or under the weather - well done. We have had wonderful adventures and the children have lots of ideas ready to start again in the new year.

This week in phonics we have been looking at some new digraphs (two letters making one sound). We have some new rhymes to help us learn these. Our sounds are /qu/, /sh/ and /ch/ and we are looking at /th/ tomorrow. We have also been looking at the tricky words 'he' and 'she'.

We have again been baking lots this week. We have made some numicon biscuits to help with our numbers of the week. This week we were looking at all numbers from 1-10. The children had some great talk about the numbers we were creating. Today we have also been making some delicious cranberry sauce! This brought up lots of talk and discussions about our Christmas traditions - I think we're all very excited!

We had a lovely treat on Monday afternoon as we joined Mrs Pawson with year 1 and 2 in the wildlife area. We lit the campfire and toasted apple with sugar and made hot chocolate in the Kelly Kettle. We then had the opportunity to listen to some of year 1 and 2’s winter poetry. This inspired us to do some of our own campfire wiritng and drawings!

Unfortunately when we went down to the wlidlife area this week many children were without suitable warm clothing. It will most likely get colder in the spring term and we will continue to learn in our outdoor environments. Please can you make sure your child returns to school in the Spring term with some warm clothing and footwear suitablefor outdoor learning - we spotted Aldi have had some great bargains recently. If you are unsure what would be best then please come and speak to us.

Tonight we are sending home all the children's belongings from school. If you find anything that doesn’t belong to your child, please return it in the new year. Having the children's personal belongings clearly named has really helped us return items that have been misplaced - thank you for supporting us with this.

And finally we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and exciting New Year celebrations. Thank you so much for the gifts and cards we have received, it s very generous of you. School starts back for children on Tuesday 8th January 2019 - we look forward to seeing you then!

Key dates to remember:
  • Friday 21st December, 1:30pm - Carol service at St Andrew's Church, everyone welcome
  • Friday 21st December, 3:00pm - School closes
  • Tuesday 8th January - School re-opens for the children
