Weekly Update - 13th December 2018

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 13 Dec 2018

Wow - we are SO proud of all the children in Oak class. Their Nativity performances were brilliant and Reception did a great job as for some this was their first time on stage! A lot of hard work and enthusiasm was required from the chlildren and they were fantastic. We are very proud!

Even with all the excitement of Christmas we have continued with our phase 3 phonics. This week we have learnt the sounds /v/ /y/ /z/ and /zz/ as well as revising our phase 2 sounds and tricky words. We pratise blending these sounds in school to read words as well as segmenting words into sounds to write them. Please keep going with your storytelling at home as this is hugely important for communication and language development as well as reading and writing.

We have had a very important number of the week this week - number 10! Can you spot anything to do with this number at home this weekend?

Have you decorated your tree at home yet? If you have you can bring in a photo of your tree to add onto our display in the classroom.

Our advent challenges have again continued this week. We have been thinking about kindness, improving things and greetings in other languages. Keep an eye out on our display in the classroom if you want to read more about what we've been doing.

This morning we made our own Christmas Wreath, it is amazing and will welcome us all into school. We do spend a lot of time outside everyday so warm clothing is essential. However lots of children don’t have warm clothes, gloves, hats, scarfs etc. waterproof trousers are also handy as they add an extra layer of warmth and can be put over the top of our school uniform. We have some spares in school in case anyone forgets one week but not enough for everyone.

Small request...please could each child bring in a small, clean jar on Thursday.

And another small request...If you have any spare christmas wrapping paper, bows or ribbon left, we would be delighted to receive it in our 'Santa's workshop'.

  • This week is our last celebration assembly as next week is our carol service at 1:30pm in St Andrew's Church. Please join us for this celebration.
  • School Christmas Lunch tomorrow. You can also wear a Christmas jumper to raise money for Save the Children - suggested donation £1.
  • Friends Christmas Disco Wednesday 19th December - more info on the news and events page.
  • School closes at 3pm on Friday 21st Decmber.
