Weekly Update - 27th September 2018

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 27 Sep 2018

This week as well as looking at rhyme and alliteration we have started to look at some of our phase two sounds, we have started with 's' 'a' 't'. We have had lots of fun listening to the sounds and learning to mark make (early stages of drawing the letter shape) them as well. Each child will be bringing home a sounds ring with the sounds we have learnt on and a short information sheet. We look forward to welcoming parents and friends into school on Thursday 11th October to have a fun letters and sounds session in school. If you have any questions before then please ask. (Apologies for the eorror of the month on last week's newsletter - thank you for letting us know!)

We have been busy investigating numbers around our classroom, talking about our favourite numbers and having fun spotting numbers all around us. We have started a magic numbers book to record some of our investigations in. Our number of the week this week has been number 1.

We have been very busy with our gross (large) movements. Developing strength in our arms and core will help us with our writing. These skills are really important, we have been practising washing the large gate with big sweeping arm movements, using large paintbrushes and water to paint the shed and lots of other fun jobs. We have also been practising crossing our mid-line, touching our left hand to our right knee and then our right hand to our left knee. This is just one of many important skills we need to be able to do easily to become confident fluid writers. Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates have been learning lots of new ideas in this area of child development, so if we ask you any random questions about crawling for example, do not be surprised... we are busy researching and developing our knowledge and interests. If you have any questions please ask, we love to share information!

We have really enjoyed reading stories with the children yet again this week. Wordless picture books are brilliant for developing commuication skills as well as reading and language skills. Learning to read for enjoyment is such an important skill for achievement in life. We would recommend story telling and reading to be a daily activity for all children at home.  Please record your child's reading in their yellow reading record - this is also where we write top tips for how to support at home.
