Weekly Update - 14th June 2018

Miss Oates and Mrs Pawson - 14 Jun 2018

'We're going on a bird hunt' has been our theme this week. The children were interested in finding our more about birds. We started off thinking about some ways that would help us find a bird and have begun some research to help us know what food birds like and where they like to nest. We have also explored our wildlife area and listenened out for birds. We heard lots of different birdsongs and used an app on our iPad to help us work out what bird they were. Some of us decided to have a go at building nests and we are going to check back on them next week - hopefully the wind today hasn't been too strong! The year 1s also took part in a birdsong workshop this week with Mrs Harris and some special visitors. They learnt what birdsongs sounded like slowed down and had a go at making some of their own.

We have also been exploring the different dragons that exist in our story 'Tell me a dragon'. The children have been extra creative with their use of adjectives and descriptive noun phrases. I wonder if you spot any dragons at home? Perhaps you could draw a picture of what the dragons look like.

Recpetion have been working on their money skills each with their own purses and have been buying and selling all sorts. We have been using 1pence, 2pence and 5pence pieces. I wonder what coins you can recognise and use at home. Year 1 have been continuing with their fraction work this week looking at quarters. We have worked hard on remembering that to find quarters you need to split the whole (shape or quantity) into four equal parts.

We really enjoyed our visit from the Ripon Bookshop on Monday. Gill told us about lots of books and even shared with us her favourite story 'Edgar and the Sausage Inspector'. We hope you made some exciting purchases! Our reading ambassadors have written a little more about this on their page.

A few of notes:

Please can you have a good look around at home for any school books. We have a couple of our wordless picture books missing as well as some of the banded reading books.

Our lost property box is filling up again. Please have a look through to check your child's belongings are not in there. It is a grey box kept next to the registration table.

Please can you respond to this week's registration question again. The marbles accidentally got mixed up - sorry!

A reminder that sandals are not part of our school's uniform policy. This is for safety reaosns.

'Hold it right there!'

We're going on a bird hunt...

Carefully counting out the money for the flower stall...
